How CBD Is Used For Alcohol Hangovers

Night outs and drinks with the squad are fun, but the troublesome part comes the next day. Yes, we’re talking about those nasty hangovers on a Sunday morning that keep you away from alcohol forever (read until next Friday). What if there was a way to minimize the symptoms of hangovers? Luckily, that may be possible with CBD. Yes, CBD, one of the cannabinoids present in cannabis. CBD has been in the limelight lately for many of its health benefits. Studies reveal that CBD may help reduce anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and skin problems like acne. It may also help with your hangover by acting upon the symptoms. Let’s understand how.

CBD Products

Because CBD is not highly psychoactive and does not create any euphoric high on the users, most people consider it a safer option. You can find several CBD products ranging from gummies to oil tinctures and topicals. You can find these in a nearby cannabis dispensary or online. However, make sure that the CBD products like CBD oil to help you fall asleep is one of the best online CBD products.

1. Headache

The first and foremost symptom of an alcohol hangover is a headache. It is prevalent and may get so worse that you’d do anything to make it go away. It may be even worse among people experiencing migraines in general. While taking over-the-counter medication to keep it at bay may seem like a convenient option momentarily, it may cause severe side effects in the long run.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and may help reduce the elements causing headaches, thanks to its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Alcohol usually triggers two types of headaches, one in which the pain starts within a few minutes of alcohol consumption. Whereas in the other, it may take a few hours after consuming alcohol. Either way, CBD may help you eliminate the headache.

2. Vomiting and Nausea

Overdrinking and nausea is a match indeed made in hell. It sure may have reminded you of at least one episode of too many shots and nausea from the good old days. Alcohol causes an internal inflammation along the lining of the stomach. Moreover, it may also slow down the movement of the undigested food in the stomach, moving towards the small intestine.

As if that wasn’t enough, the acid content in the gut also increases, resulting in nausea and vomiting. The potent antiemetic (anti-vomiting and nausea) properties of CBD may help in such scenarios. It may also help reduce the inflammation in the stomach and make you feel better.

3. Alcohol Toxicity

Here’s another complex problem caused due to binge drinking without a break. Consuming more alcohol in short durations increases the alcohol content in the blood. Having a higher BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is not advisable. That impairs cognitive functions, explaining the inability to walk and stand steady, slurred speech, etc.

Moreover, alcohol toxicity can also lead to cell damage. Your liver is responsible for breaking down substances like alcohol. It breaks down alcohol and then converts the acetaldehyde into an acid which can be toxic. Luckily, CBD may help in reducing alcohol toxicity and alcohol-induced cell damage.

4. Dehydration

The endocannabinoid system exists to maintain the overall homeostasis in the body. Alcohol messes with homeostasis and causes dehydration. Another reason is that alcohol is a diuretic, making you urinate more than usual. Consuming more drinks will create a cycle of urinating more often than usual, resulting in loss of fluids.

CBD can help restore the balance in the endocannabinoid system and maintain the perfect homeostasis preventing dehydration. Another way to avoid dehydration is by consuming plenty of water between each round of alcoholic drinks.

5. Fatigue

Fatigue and tiredness is another common symptom of an alcohol hangover. We have already mentioned how it causes dehydration and, over time, it may result in fatigue. Besides, all that dancing can also physically burden you the next day. Since CBD interacts with the cannabinoid system, it may help you restore energy by acting as an external cannabinoid. So, you are likely to feel less fatigue and weak the morning after. With no inflammation and pain, you may feel fresh and energetic when you wake up.

6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome

IBS may not be as common as a headache during an alcohol hangover, but many people experience it. For example, have you ever experienced bloating, constipation, diarrhea the morning after alcohol consumption? If yes, then you may be experiencing IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

It is like being allergic to alcohol since it causes gut inflammation resulting in such bowel issues. However, since CBD possesses anti-inflammatory properties, it may help you reduce gut inflammation and the effects of IBS. So, if you show sensitivity to alcohol, you may want to give CBD a try to feel better the next day.

Final Thoughts

Therefore, CBD is one of the hundreds of cannabinoids present in cannabis plants and may help treat various health conditions. However, the quality and the dosage of CBD supplements and products play a crucial role in avoiding any potential adverse effects. So, if you are a novice CBD user, it’s best to start with small amounts of CBD and increase the dosage later accordingly. Of course, it’s better to consult a doctor before using CBD as well.
