Can CBD Help Fight Allergies?

In the high-pressure bustle of the current day to day, stress tends to build up. As the sun sets we all could use a little bit of help to unwind—a little supplement that might help us sleep or end the day. This is where CBD typically comes into play. This cannabinoid is a key component of hemp and many medical marijuana products. It is well-known (and well-loved) for its potential to ease worried minds and help users enjoy a sound sleep. But when we think of CBD, we don’t necessarily think of allergies.

Much like allergies, trends come and go with the seasons. Fad after fad moves constantly in rotation. In a world of hemp derivatives, THC, synthetics, Delta-8, and Delta-9, how can you know what will stand the test of time? In terms of beneficial properties, CBD seems like it is here to stay. But what exactly is CBD? Where does it come from, and does it have the potential to help ease allergy symptoms?

What is CBD?

As one of 113 active cannabinoids in marijuana, CBD tends to be confused with other substances. THC provides the “high” from cannabis, while CBD may help to soothe anxiety or provide other beneficial effects. Research also suggests that CBD is non-habit forming and presents a low risk for dependency. This makes it a perfect candidate for providing some potential relief from day-to-day struggles.

CBD comes from the hemp plant and can be synthesized into numerous different forms. It can be synthesized into a tincture, turned into oil, or used in tea, bath bombs, creams, and so on. CBD is incredibly flexible and as a result, may be able to provide a variety of beneficial effects. But the question remains: can it help with allergies?

CBD and Allergies

There are no definitive studies that show an effective relationship between CBD and allergy relief. In some cases, however, CBD can even act as an irritant. If someone is ingesting low-quality hemp or vaping metallic oils, this could cause more inflammation and potential allergic reactions.

Under the supervision of a doctor, CBD and cannabis may be used as part of a treatment plan for pain, anxiety, and even inflammation. There has yet to be a link directly between allergies and CBD, but some experimental studies have shown positive results in mice. CBD was introduced into mice with allergic asthma because “cannabidiol is known to exert immunomodulatory effects…” After the introduction of the hemp derivative, a reduction in fibrosis and airway inflammation was seen.

While we may be far away from human testing, it is reassuring to know that there is hope for those seeking new forms of allergy relief. Organic, all-natural CBD is filled with unlockable potential. We are only now just beginning to discover all of the benefits that this herbal supplement can have on our lives.

CBD Treatments

Currently, the only FDA-approved medical use for CBD is for the treatment of epilepsy. It must be prescribed by a doctor under the name Epidiolex. While CBD has been reported to be relatively safe, it has not been approved for over-the-counter or emergency use. There are many incredible delivery services out there, but they should not be used to receive treatment in a medical emergency.

Those with an allergy to terpenes should avoid using CBD. While some studies have shown an antihistamine-like reaction when ingesting CBD, a terpenes allergy could prove to be problematic. Even the FDA-approved drug Epidiolex has been shown to have a small chance of causing a rash. Always be sure to contact your doctor before using CBD as a supplement.

So, Is There a Connection Between Allergies and CBD?

CBD has not been shown to be an effective supplement for treating allergic reactions, but it is a relatively safe supplement that may promote wellness and relaxation. Whether you are using it in your favorite vaporizer or enjoying an edible, just remember to use CBD responsibly.
Well-maintained, carefully extracted, farm-to-table CBD may provide a wide range of benefits. Whether you want to promote clarity or unwind after a long hard day, CBD has you covered. This flexible hemp derivative can be consumed in numerous different ways, so find the form that works best for you and experience CBD for yourself!
